The Red Battle Flyer by Manfred Freiherr Von Richthofen

The Red Battle Flyer is Manfred von Richthofen's autobiography which mainly deals with his role as an ace Fighter Pilot in the First World War for the German forces.

The book describes how he went from being a cavalry officer to an observer on an aircraft, to a fighter pilot, and finally to the most famous fighter pilot of the war. Von Richthofen provides gripping detailed descriptions of his and his comrades' exciting exploits as fighter pilots, but we also learn about the continued loss of comrades in death and the suffering of war.

Von Richthofen had 80 "kills" to his name, making him the most successful flying ace during the war. He was known as the "Red Baron", where the "Red" referred to the bright red colour of his famous Fokker triplane and the "Baron" referred to his title of Freiherr, which means Baron.

This thrilling account of air fighting in World War I allows us more than a glimpse into the mind and life of one of the most effective and skilled warriors of all time.

Within You is the Power by Henry Thomas Hamblin

Within You is the Power shows us there is a power lying hidden in mankind, by the use of which any person can rise to higher and better things in life. The object of this book is to help people to bring their inward powers of mind and spirit into expression, wisely and in harmony with the laws of life and to build up character.

There is no way whereby the discipline of life can be avoided. There are no cunning means by which fate can be tricked or evaded. Each life must meet its own troubles and difficulties: each soul must pass through its deep waters, every heart must encounter sorrow and grief. But no one needs to be overwhelmed in the great conflicts of life, for one who has learned the this great secret, dwells in an impregnable city, built upon the Rock of Truth, against which the storms of life beat in vain.

While this book does not offer any vain promises of an easy life, it rather endeavours to show how to become so strong that life looks almost easy by comparison.

The Terror by Arthur Machen

During the First World War in Britain a series of unexplained deaths and murders occur with no sign of who or what is responsible.

-- "The working man told me about it, and added some dreadful details. Corpses so terribly maimed that coffins had been kept covered; faces mutilated as if by some gnawing animal..."

A Martian Odyssey by Stanley G. Weinbaum

A Collection of Science Fiction Short Stories

Stanley G. Weinbaum is best known for his pioneering science fiction short story, A Martian Odyssey, published in 1934 to large (and continuing) praise, which introduces a sympathetic alien, Tweel.

Other stories by Weinbaum deal with Dixon Wells, a playboy who runs afoul of the inventions of his erstwhile tutor in "Newer Physics", Prof. van Manderpootz, a boastful genius who rates Einstein as his intellectual equal (or even a bit inferior). In "The Worlds of If", the professor’s invention exposes what might have been; in "The Ideal", Manderpootz constructs a device that can show the image of someone's ideal (in Wells' case, his perfect woman); the invention in "The Point of View" allows one to see the world from another's perspective.

This collection of Weinbaum's stories include A Martian Odyssey, Valley of Dreams, The Adaptive Ultimate, The Mad Moon, The Worlds of If, The Ideal, The Point of View, Pygmalion's Spectacles, Parasite Planet, The Lotus Eaters and The Circle of Zero.
